Public Information Session Scheduled for March 20
With the expected start of the 2024 road construction season quickly approaching, the City of Cortland in conjunction with SUNY Cortland, the Cortland County Business Development Corporation and the Cortland County Convention and Visitors Bureau, is hosting a public information session on March 20 at 6 p.m. at the Cortland Elks Lodge to update the community on this year’s planned work, expected impacts, detour routes, and alternative parking plans.
What to Expect in 2024
This spring will see the next phase of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. This stage involves replacing all current sidewalks and remaining curbing on both the east and west sides of Main Street. Additionally, it will include repairing additional utility vaults, converting the roadway to accommodate two-way traffic, installing new street lighting, and implementing updated traffic control equipment.
Work will also resume on Groton Avenue, which includes the replacement of water mains, storm sewer systems, and sanitary sewer line replacements. Additionally, Groton Ave will receive new sidewalks and curbing. As part of this project, the City-owned Groton Avenue parking lot is slated for reconstruction to create more parking.
Another substantial project on the schedule for this summer is the reconstruction of the intersection of Broadway Avenue, Pashley Drive, and Neubig Road.
