About the Event

You are cordially invited to the first Crown City Mural Fest on September 2nd, 2022! The location of the event is at the Cortland Corset Building at 75 East Court Street in Cortland, New York from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The event is FREE with a suggested $5 donation to help support future art events.

Engage in an Artisan Market and peruse the wares of local artisans while enjoying art demonstrations, listening to the delightful sounds of local musicians, and immersing yourself in the creation of artwork exploring the concept of Cultivating Community.

Live painting by local and regional artists during Crown City Mural Fest will be used to create temporary art to beautify the construction project on Main Street in downtown Cortland. The public is also encouraged to participate with all necessary materials provided. Crown City Mural Fest is an opportunity to engage the community in education about public arts and encourage participation. We strive to collaborate between artists and the City of Cortland cultivating the community through community arts.

The City of Cortland was awarded the Downtown Revitalization Grant in 2017 with $200,000 dedicated to a public art component. Crown City Mural Fest is introducing that arts component to the community at large. Crown City Mural Fest is an opportunity for collaboration and public art education for the future Crown City Artworks Project.

Public art has many benefits from improving health and well-being to providing a sense of place, identity, and cultural cohesion to a community. Public art allows us to explore our history and cultural identity in a way that enriches the community through collaboration and discussion by creating an attachment and supporting a sense of pride and ownership while engaging the community in the planning and creation process.
