Construction crews with CCI Companies has begun the two-year project to rebuild Main Street in historic downtown Cortland. The construction is part of the City of Cortland’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative, which is being funded in part by a $10 million dollar grant awarded by the State of New York.

9/18 - 9/22/2023
Installation of the new storm sewer system continues on Main Street. Crews will install storm sewer connections on the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Port Watson Street.
Work to repair underground vaults continues at 17-19 Main Street and the corner of Orchard and Main Street. The vault work at Orchard has necessitated the closure of Orchard Street between Main and Haskell Place. This is expected to be an extended closure subject to further notice.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5 and continuing through Thursday, Sept. 7, crews will begin installing the main storm sewer collection basins at the intersection of Main, Court and West Court Streets.
This work will require a substantial excavation at that intersection, and as a result, Main Street will be closed at that intersection. This closure will be overnight as well. Main Street will be closed at Central Ave, with traffic detoured down Central Ave and Orchard Streets. Court Street will be closed to thru traffic, and West Court Street traffic will be detoured onto Haskell Place and Monroe Heights.
It is expected this work will be completed on Thursday, Sept. 7, but any delays may require the closure to extend into Friday, Sept. 8.

Monday August 28: Crews will connect the new water main to the existing one on Clinton Street. There will be water service disruptions from Main Street to Charles Street. Also, on Monday, crews will be excavating on West Court Street in preparation for the water main connection at Main and West Court Street.
Tuesday August 29: Crews will connect the new water to the existing main on West Court Street. There will be water service disruptions between Main Street and Monroe Heights.
Wednesday August 30: Crews will be connecting the new water main to the existing water main on Court Street, there will be water service disruptions From Main Street to Church Street.

Monday August 21: Water service will be off for properties on the east side of Main Street from Clinton Avenue to Central Avenue.
Tuesday, August 22: Central Avenue will be closed to traffic from Main Street to Church Street from 6am to 10am.
Wednesday, August 23: Water service will be disrupted to properties on Central Avenue from Main to Church Street. Central Avenue will be closed as well. This is expected to run from 6am to 11 am..
Thursday, August 24: Water service will be disrupted to properties on the east side of North Main Street from Clinton Avenue to Lincoln Avenue. This disruption is expected to last from 6am to 11 am..
This work will require lane closures throughout the week. Flaggers and signage will be present. Drivers are reminded to use caution.

There will be multiple projects happening simultaneously -
PROJECT NO. 1: Monday, July 24
Crews will tie the new Main Street water mains into the existing water mains on South Main Street. This work will result in lane closures on Port Watson and Tompkins Streets and will cause water service disruptions to properties on South Main Street from Port Watson/Tompkins to the intersection of Williams Street.
PROJECT NO. 2: Monday, July 24
Crews will continue installing new water service connections to properties on the West Side of Main Street between Orchard and West Court Streets. There will be water service disruptions to the affected properties.
PROJECT NO. 3: Tuesday, July 25
Crews will tie the new water mains on Main Street to the existing water mains on Port Watson Street. This work will result in lane closures on Port Watson and Tompkins Streets. Water service will be disrupted to properties on Port Watson Street from Main Street to Church Street while this work is completed.
PROJECT NO. 1: Monday-Wednesday, July 17-19
Crews will be installing water service connections on the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Port Watson Street. Businesses and properties in the affected area will experience temporary water service disruptions.
PROJECT NO. 1: Monday, July 17
City crews will be conducting road base repairs on Cleveland Street now that the water line replacement project has wrapped up. This work will occur in preparation for street paving.
PROJECT NO. 2: Thursday, July 20
Crews will connect the newly installed water mains to the existing mains on Tompkins Street. This will result in water service disruption between Main Street and Prospect Street. Service disruptions are expected to last 4-6 hours. There will be lane closures on Tompkins Street at Main Street
PROJECT NO. 3: Friday, July 21
Clayton Avenue will be closed at the intersection of Main Street to allow crews to connect the existing water supply to the newly installed water mains. There will be service disruption on Clayton Ave between Main and Hill Street. Service disruptions are expected to last 4-6 hours.

PROJECT NO. 1
Work continues the rest of this week to install water and sewer services along the east side of Main Street between Clinton Ave and Court Street. The pressure testing of new water mains and water lateral continues, with water quality testing underway.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews continue to repair/renovate the various private utility vaults along Main Street.
PROJECT NO. 3
Orchard Street at the intersection of Haskell Place and Main Street remains closed at this time.
Traffic is being maintained along Main Street with multiple lane shifts in place. Please follow detour directions and be mindful of work crews.
There will be multiple projects happening simultaneously -
PROJECT NO. 1
Crews will continue installing new water and sewer connections to various properties along the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Port Watson Street.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews will be working to repair or remove an existing vault near 77 Main Street. As a result of the planned work, Gorgers Cortland has announced they will be closed this Thursday and Friday.

Crews are expecting to wrap up the tie-in of the new water mains at the intersection of Main, North Main, Groton Ave and Clinton Street. Beginning Monday, June 26 crews will be installing water and sewer services along the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Port Watson Street.
There will be parking restrictions on both the east and west side of Main Street in those areas.
Crews will be installing water mains between Orchard and Groton Avenue. In order to facilitate water infrastructure installation Central Avenue between Main Street and Church Street will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC ON Monday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 20.
Crews will also be installing individual water services on the west side of Main Street near Tompkins Street.
Crews will continue work to tie the new Main Street water mains into the existing water infrastructure located under the intersections of Main, North Main, Groton Ave, and Clinton Street. This work requires lane closures in and around that intersection, flaggers are in place currently.
Crews will also begin connecting Main Street properties to the newly installed water services beginning later this week. It’s expected that some businesses will be adjusting their hours to accommodate these connections.
Lastly, in preparation for next Monday and Tuesday’s closure of Central Ave between Main and Church Street, crews will temporarily close Central Ave tomorrow morning June 14 until approximately 8am.
To facilitate Main Street water main installation crews will be closing the Groton Ave to Main Street turn lane. Traffic will be maintained on the east side of Main Street. In addition, Orchard Street between Haskell Place and Main Street will be closed to traffic. Parking on the West side of Main Street is limited.
PROJECT NO. 1
Crews will continue installing water and sewer services on the east side of Main Street between Court and Tompkins Street through this Friday. This will cause some additional parking disruptions on the east side in that area.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews will resume installing water mains between West Court Street and Orchard Street along the west side of Main Street, this work is expected to begin Thursday and will be ongoing. Parking on the west side in this area will be unavailable.
Installation of water mains continues at the intersection of Main Street, Tompkins Street, Port Watson Street and South Main Street. Flaggers will be controlling traffic on Port Watson and Tompkins. Parking on the West Side of Main is restricted.
There will be multiple projects happening simultaneously -
PROJECT NO. 1
Crews will be preparing the intersection of Main Street, South Main Street, Tompkins Street and Port Watson Street for the installation of water mains on Tuesday, May 16th. This work is expected to last 2-3 hours, but will substantially impact traffic in this busy intersection during the morning commute. Flaggers will be in place but motorists are urged to avoid the busy intersection at the streets listed above.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews will continue installing new water mains along the west side of Main Street between West Court and South Main Street. Parking along the West side of Main from Orchard Street to Clayton is restricted.
PROJECT NO. 3
Vault work will continue along both sides of Main Street, which may require intermittent sidewalk closures.

PROJECT NO. 1
Construction crews will continue installing sewer laterals along the west side of Main Street between Court Street and Tompkins.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews will also be installing new water mains on the west side of Main Street between Court and Tompkins Street. This work will require the closure of the entrance to City parking lot between the Marketplace Mall and the VFW. As well as on-street parking on the west side of main street between Court street and Clayton Ave. Traffic on Main Street will be restricted to one lane.
PROJECT NO. 3
Vault work will continue along both sides of Main Street, which may require intermittent sidewalk closures.
4/17- 4/21/2023
There will be multiple projects happening simultaneously -
PROJECT NO. 1
Crews will continue replacing water mains along the west side of Main Street at the intersection of West Court, Court Street and Main Street. This work will require the closure of West Court Street at the intersection of Main Street on Monday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 18.
This closure may be extended based on weather and related variables. Motorists using West Main Street to access Downtown are advised to seek an alternate route during this period.
Parking along the west side of Main Street from Orchard Street to West Court Street will be impacted. Visitors and employees should utilize the Groton Avenue parking lot, as well as available parking on Haskell Place. Additional parking is available In the Port Watson Street parking lot and near the City Fire Station.
PROJECT NO. 2
Vault work will continue along both sides of Main Street, which may require intermittent sidewalk closures.
4/10- 4/14/2023
Crews from CCI will continue the water main installation at the intersection of Main Street, West Court and Court Street. Alternating lane closures will be in effect with flagging operations in place.
Parking restrictions remain in the vicinity of NBT Bank and the Marketplace Mall.
4/3 - 4/7/2023
There will be multiple projects happening simultaneously -
PROJECT NO. 1
Crews will remove trees along Main Street, Wednesday through Friday, April 5-7. Rolling parking restrictions will be in place on the East and West sides of Main Street during this period. Visitors to downtown during the hours of 8am-5pm should plan to park in City owned parking lots.
PROJECT NO. 2
Crews will be installing a new water main between West Court and Court Street. Traffic on Main Street will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic.
PROJECT NO. 3
Crews will begin replacing underground utility vaults. This is an ongoing, multi-week project, with the first vault being replaced at 2-8 Main Street. Sidewalk restrictions will be in place.
